PRACTICAL GUIDANCE · PLANNING, CURING & MAINTENANCE

A little clarity, before the pour.

Plan your project with clear questions about preparation, finishes and care. The guidance here is general; follow the specific instructions supplied for your actual concrete work.

AFTER THE POUR

Care that fits your project.

New concrete needs protection as it gains strength. The mix, weather and intended loads affect when the surface can be used and how it should be cared for.

AFTER PLACEMENT

Protect the fresh surface.

Keep people, pets and equipment away until your crew confirms the next step. Follow the project instructions for surface protection and curing.

BEFORE USE

Check the release for each load.

Walking, furniture and vehicle use have different requirements. Ask for the dates and conditions that apply to your pour instead of relying on a fixed website timeline.

ONGOING CARE

Keep the finish in good condition.

Ask about cleaning, winter care and any sealer used on your project. Follow product-specific maintenance guidance and discuss concerns with the crew.

Ask about winter care before the first freeze.

Discuss de-icers, snow removal and the care requirements for your selected finish or sealer. Product and project instructions should guide those decisions.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Useful answers before your project.

Answers to realistic questions about permits, ground settling, cracks, reinforcement, and pricing.

How quickly can we get an on-site estimate in Davis or Salt Lake County?

Contact us with your project city, approximate dimensions and the work you have in mind. We will discuss availability and the next steps; a fixed response or appointment time is not promised.

Do I need a building permit for a concrete driveway, patio, or sidewalk?

Approval requirements depend on the specific property, scope and jurisdiction. Building foundations and work affecting a public sidewalk, curb or street approach need particular review. Confirm the applicable requirements before work begins.

Why are control joints necessary, and will my concrete crack?

Concrete can crack. Joints help manage where movement and shrinkage occur, alongside suitable preparation, drainage and reinforcement where specified. They do not guarantee that all cracks will remain hidden or inside joints.

How is reinforcement selected?

Reinforcement is selected for the intended use and any approved plans. The material, spacing, support and cover need to be specified for the project; neither rebar nor mesh is a universal answer for every slab.

How does Utah weather and freezing temperatures affect the pour schedule?

Weather affects placement, protection and curing. We discuss a practical schedule and any conditions that may delay or change the plan rather than assume every season allows the same approach.

How do you protect tree roots and irrigation lines during demolition?

Identify known irrigation lines and nearby trees during the site review. Utility locating and any needed specialist checks should be arranged before excavation. Work near important roots may need advice from an appropriate tree professional.

How often should stamped or decorative concrete be sealed?

The maintenance interval depends on the finish, chosen product, exposure and use. Follow the instructions for the actual sealer or finish rather than apply a universal schedule.

How do you ensure proper water drainage away from my home?

We review the levels, surrounding surfaces and drainage route at the property. Any drainage details and connection requirements should be agreed for the site; do not assume one slope or drain arrangement suits every home.
